The Daily Checklist

Posted by John on June 7th, 2006

As a personal tool, checklists can provide you with the means to recreate successful tasks and processes. A daily checklist is a great tool for reminding yourself of key things that you would like to complete at the start of every day. Here’s how to start…

Group your tasks into categories:

  • Health items:
    • take your medicine
    • exercise and stretch
  • Business reviews:
    • review traffic statistics
    • review previous day’s advertising revenue
    • update tracking documents
  • Communication reminders:
    • Check each email account
    • check voice mail
    • recharge cell phone battery
    • review calendar and tasks
  • Personal goals and reminders:
    • review goals
    • visualize completed goals
    • determine next steps

An approach that works well is to print out your daily checklist each morning along with any supporting documents that are required to complete your checklist. Resolve to work through your checklist items prior to taking any breaks or diving into the day’s key projects. Keep this checklist focused to items that you should do every day to start your day.

A Good Question

Sometimes, a good question helps to focus your thoughts. Instead of: What should I put on my list? Try: What can I add to my daily checklist to help me prepare for and be successful every day? Keep your checklist in a simple file on your computer that you can easily update. The successful checklist is revised continually based on your needs and results.
